Day 2- Bradner Preserve
Updated: Mar 26, 2020
Are you looking for an "off the beaten path" kind of place? I suggest you try Bradner Preserve in Richmond. Tucked away in rural Richmond, this local gem is a worth a visit. The trail through an old hardwood forest. Unfortunately, the gypsy moth infestations in the past few years did significant damage to the red and white oaks. When I last hiked Bradner, there were new clearings. There are also very interesting tree and rock formations to be found throughout the Preserve.
Getting there: From 138 in Richmond, turn onto Glen Rock Rock Road. Turn left onto James Trail (Peter Potts Pottery will be in front of you.) Go about 1/4 mi and turn onto Gardner Road. In under 1.7 mi, the Preserve will be on your left. (If you get to Hoxie Road, you went too far.)
